About Art Well Therapy
My name is Gemma and I am a UK-qualified Art Therapist, registered with the HCPC and a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). I’m also a person-centred therapist, which means I believe the most important part of therapy is you: your experiences, your values, and your pace. In person-centred therapy, the relationship between therapist and client is built on genuine respect, empathy, and acceptance, creating a safe space where you can explore and grow without judgement.
I believe in the power of creativity to connect, to heal, and to make sense of the world, especially when words don’t quite fit.
For me, art has always been a way to navigate the messiness and beauty of life. It’s not about being “good” at art, it’s about giving yourself space to explore what’s going on inside. That’s what I offer through art therapy: a space where you can express yourself freely, feel seen, and begin to find new ways forward.
My work is grounded in a deep commitment to mental health and belonging. I’m currently undertaking a PhD exploring art therapy with migrant populations, and I also support the next generation of therapists as a research supervisor at the Children’s Therapy Centre in Dublin.
Whether you’re here out of curiosity, feeling a little stuck, or just need a new way to express what’s going on, you’re in the right place. Let’s get creative and see where it takes us..

1.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art-making to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences, especially when words feel difficult, or not quite enough.
You don’t have to be “good at art.”
You don’t need fancy materials.
You don’t even need to have the words for what you're feeling.
Art therapy is about the process, not the product.
In a session, we might talk, we might create, or both. You might find yourself painting, drawing, doodling, scribbling, collaging, or just sitting with the materials until something starts to make sense. The art becomes a bridge between what you’re holding inside and what you’re ready to explore.
